A good one, actually.

I guess we do look alike if you hide my ears and tail.

[ It's not like enough people have seen an Elda before with their own two eyes to know any better.

In any event... it's comments like that which stirs both fondness and uncertainty in Minato's heart. ]

You're too nice sometimes. I know you're doing all this for His Highness so failure isn't an option, but people will take advantage of your generosity.

[ The world at large isn't so kind. ]

You don't actually know that.

Basing your decisions around "feelings" will get you killed someday.

[ Ugh... ]

You're strange, you know? Out of all of us, you have every right to deprive anyone from the benefit of a doubt.

If anything, you should trust me in particular less.

Then you're a much better person than most out there.

Sometimes I think you use that term too loosely. I haven't done anything to earn it.

[ How to phrase it best...? ]

I'm not sure I deserve to just yet.

I guess I can't remember the last time someone called me that.

Maybe you're right. But most people wouldn't want to be friends with someone who has nothing to offer them.

I guess you're not "most people" though.

I've noticed.

Sure. It won't be anything too fancy though. Never learned how to do anything beyond throwing together what happened to be available.

I have some time now, so there's a recipe I can show you if you're free.

Cooking doesn't seem to take too long when you're around.

[ Don't misunderstand him though!! ]

I guess two people makes it go faster.

[ Minato's at the kitchen first to inspect the runner's ingredients. Fortunately, it seems Neuras forgot to power the vehicle down, leaving the kitchen available to cook up a meal.

He gives the cupboard only a cursory glance. In theory, the recipe he intends to share can work with practically any sort of ingredients. It is one that is intended to be modified easily depending on whichever ingredients the cook happened to have on hand. Rather, it's the spices that are the most important aspect. They're in luck, for it appears there is plenty of that in store.

And since he's here first, Minato takes it upon himself to place a pot on the stovetop before retrieving the miscellaneous ingredients, an assortment of vegetables with nothing in common and scraps of leftover meats that Strohl had set aside after making an earlier dish, for it had been far too little to create something new on its own. ]

We --

[ Minato pauses. There's no "we," here. This isn't the Capitol. It's just Minato here, alone, as it should be, for it means the other Paripus children remain safe at the Honeybee Inn for now.

He makes a small note to himself to send whatever he can back to Fabienne to cover the cost of keeping a roof over the children's heads. She'd insisted there'd been no need for that, but Minato wasn't about to accept any charity. The money is an insurance, an equivalent exchange to keep his own guilt at bay. ]

...It's Sunshade Stew, just... something I used to make for the kids.

[ He places each of the vegetables into a large bowl and sets to washing them, all before retrieving a paring knife to peel them. Minato then points at the pot. ]

Fill it about a third with water and turn on the flame. Then add the meat to it. That's going to make the stew's base.

[ Knife in hand, Minato begins peeling each of the vegetables while contemplating Will's observations. ]

It was probably better than just eating things as-is to them.

[ He sweeps the peels aside and begins dicing the vegetables into smaller pieces. They're all uniform, bite-size, and though chopping things that finely is likely unnecessary for their fully-grown party, Minato finds himself falling into the old method out of habit.

He leaves the ingredients before joining Will at the pot. ]

We'll wait for the water to heat up a bit before adding everything else.

[ It... probably wouldn't hurt to give a little more background information on the dish. ]

It's supposed to be a flexible dish. Everyone would come back with one ingredient for me and I'd... see what I could do with it.

[ There's a small hum from Minato to acknowledge Will's comment. The kids did seem to enjoy trying to see what they could find after a day of dumpster diving. ]

Yeah. I guess it was for them.

[ Although, there were definitely times when someone brought something a little questionable either unintentionally or to watch how Minato wrinkled his nose at the sight of whatever was clutched in their hands.

Speaking of which, a small, exasperated sigh slips past Minato. ]

...I don't know if Strohl would let us if Hulkenberg is allowed to participate too.

[ By now, the water's almost come to a gentle boil, rumbling a bit within the pot. Minato carefully drops each ingredient into the water before returning to the assorted spices. ]

...this part's actually the important step. If you can figure out the right blend of seasonings, you can hide the taste of anything.

[ That's our captain for you, Minato thinks to himself, their captain with a penchant for declaring the most dire ideas with his entire chest. ]

If she asks, I'll say it was your idea to keep it from her.

[ Even now, he prefers to keep his contact with the other two at a minimum. It doesn't appear that they've quite forgiven Minato for his initial transgression which, all things considered, Minato considers quite fair.

He retrieves a couple of glass bottles containing dried herbs, along with some that appear to hold scarlet powders. ]

Mild enough for Strohl to eat. Usually it would have more of a kick though. Paripus dishes tend to be spicier.

[ He twists each jar of dried herbs open, shaking out a generous pinch of each before dropping them into the pot. He measures out the powders the same way, dropping them into the pot as well. ]

You don't need to be too precise with this one. If it's too bland, just add another pinch of the ground pepper. If you added too much of that, just use more water.

[ Well... If their fearless captain insists -- ]

I'm not being held accountable for the future consequences.

[ He drops another generous pinch of spice into the pot. Hopefully, there won't be any need to take the runner out in the near future. Otherwise, Minato suspects the man's poor stomach doth protest.

With that, he sets the lid onto the pot and lowers the heat for it to simmer a little while. He folds his arms, tail swaying idly as he glances back over at Will. ]

Now we wait.

We should be glad it was no such thing.

I do not suffer the presence of would-be assassins on my skyrunner.

[Although when they turn up they're useful for...various experimental endeavors.]
